Yet, there is a side of the industry now that there are companies that essentially work as lobbies for the record companies, along with the artist or their estate if they have passed away, to upload long out of print recordings to streaming services including many that have never been on CD or are very rare on CD. One of these companies is SuperVisible, founded by Timothy J. Smith, formerly of Sony/Legacy, and also another company, Iconoclassic Records, a reissue label that does do CD issues of albums that for the most part have never been on CD, especially if the artist was able to buy their masters from the majors or are albums owned by the artists distributed by independent labels originally, also has a subsidiary that does this sort of deal with streaming/digital download and in the case of Iconoclassic, they did lobby Rhino to upload Holly Dunn's MTM and Warner Bros. album catalog from the 1980s-early 1990s to streaming and digital download providers and also worked with Holly's estate on uploading her final recordings to streaming and download providers independently. SuperVisible has been working with country music legend/Bakersfield Sound pioneer Wynn Stewart's estate and Universal on uploading the Capitol catalog to download and streaming providers with the album "The Songs of Wynn Stewart" being recently uploaded. Other than compilations of his Challenge Records recordings on multiple reissue labels and the After The Storm album on CD on Audium in the early 2000s, the only way one can get Wynn's catalog in any digital form would be to buy the multi-disc boxed set of his complete catalog on the renowned Bear Family label in Germany, and SuperVisible has also worked with Deborah Allen and Universal on the uploading of her debut album, Trouble In Paradise on Capitol from 1980 on digital service providers (streaming/download) containing the #24 country chart single "Nobody's Fool."
Holly's MTM albums are not very common on CD as they closed shortly after the CDs were released and Holly took those masters to Warner Bros. back in 1989 and in 1991, Warner issued a Greatest Hits CD called "Milestones" containing a decent amount of her hits.
Great stuff, Matt!
Matt, this all makes complete sense. Thanks for sharing!
